Topographical survey for Tank Range Design in Kuwait

The US military, having been allocated a large area of desert in Northern Kuwait, required an accurate topographic survey to provide a basis for the design of the range facilities and to demarcate the area.

Longdin & Browning provided a topographic map and DTM of the area of interest, and placed boundary markers at predetermined locations on the UTM grid.

The area in which the survey was carried out was hazardous due to the proximity of a live artillery range, the scattered and potentially lethal munitions, and burnt out tanks following the Gulf War. Live firings on the nearby range took precedents over every other activity and dictated a very quick start and rapid completion of the survey activities.
