Road survey to check existing mapping in Uganda

Mott MacDonald were undertaking the feasibility study and detailed engineering design of 75km of rural highway in Uganda. Longdin & Browning were commissioned to provide survey support to the project team.

A large scale survey of the route already existed but it appeared unlikely that any permanent control remained and there was also a lack of detailed height information along the existing road on which the new alignment was to be based. Our brief was to establish new control, to provide a comprehensive survey of the existing road and any bridge/culvert sites and to check the existing mapping. The route lies between 200 and 300km to the north east of Kampala on the north slope of Mt Elgon joining with the Kenya border.
