Longdin & Browning are specialists in GIS data capture; from the relatively simple to the complex. The data capture often takes the form of co-ordinating an object on the national grid (such as manholes, lamp-posts, telephone boxes, bus shelters, gravestones, etc), and then adding attribute data (e.g. Size, type, condition, etc).
Co-ordinates can be provided by real-time differential GPS or from existing digital map data. Information is recorded to a data-logger to eliminate transcription errors. The software has built-in controls to check the integrity of the data, ensuring all data has been captured and verified prior to leaving the site.
By using additional equipment, such as digital cameras and laser range finders, further information can also be provided (e.g. digital photographs of the object and visibility distances for items such as advertisements).
